Little boys, so it's said, dream of growing up and becoming steam train drivers. And even when that dream doesn't come true, they never forget it.
Last Sunday my father was treated to a ride on a steam train. What's so special about that? Well he was allowed, with special permission, to ride on the footplate - the business end of the train. Anything more you need to know? Yes - the train was driven by his grandson, my nephew.
Graham had worked at the railway as a volunteer since before he was a teenager. Over the years he became involved with the repairs and maintenance of the engines and when it came for him to leave school he was offered an apprenticeship and now runs the workshop.
Occasionally he still drives the train - much to father's delight!
