Most people take photos of either Exmoor Ponies or Deer. But me? I take Highland Cattle!
A period of heavy rain had led me along a new route. The first five miles were on tarmac, albeit on very quiet lanes.
But I eventually climbed up and on to the Moor and as I headed towards a dwelling I could see some furry creatures. They were too big for sheep and too small for ponies.
Closer and I realised I was approaching a herd of miniature Highland Cattle! What on earth were they doing on Exmoor? As I flicked through my library of Exmoor literature I discovered that the explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, lived at the nearby farm and his first wife was an avid breeder of...Highland Cattle!
Honestly, you couldn't make this stuff up!
