Just when we thought summer had arrived, most of us woke yesterday to heavy rain storms and even flash flooding.
We all know the saying, ‘make hay while the sun shines’ – and we hope the farmers did – but let’s not forget that it needed the rain to grow.
That nugget of wisdom was apparently uttered by Ma Ingalls in one of Laura’s famous books that recounted tales of a prairie family.
“Make hay while the sun shines, but remember it needed the rain to grow” reinforces the need for us all to look on the bright side, whatever the weather.
The Ingalls family lived a hard life, eking out an existence in a barren land. Pa was a dreamer and the family followed him and his dreams as they trekked across the parts of America.
As much as Pa dreamt, Ma was practical and she finally drew the line with the family eventually put down roots – although Laura moved away when she married.
So as you look out at that rain – fight back that sigh and remember that without it there’d be no hay making when it does eventually shine!
